Vote today at http://www.refresheverything.com/volunteerinterpreters

Train volunteer interpreters in Spanish and Cantonese

Help Spanish/Cantonese speaking parents to communicate with schools

Increase parent involvement in schools

Overview
The Volunteer Interpreter Program provides a key service to parents who would not otherwise be able to communicate with teachers and staff at their children’s schools due to language barriers. We will train a cohort of volunteers in interpretation methods specifically suited to school settings in order to help bridge the communication gap between Spanish and Cantonese speaking families and the school district. The school district does not have the capacity to serve the hundreds of families whose primary language is Spanish or Cantonese. The San Francisco Education Fund will receive referrals from the San Francisco Unified School District when they have requests for interpreters. We will also promote the availability of interpretation services via school, District and community-wide communications.

MealpayPlus – A quick and convenient way to pay for your child’s school lunch, check their account balance and even monitor what they are purchasing in the cafeteria.

From SFUSD Student Nutrition Services:

It’s lunchtime: Do you know where your student’s lunch money is?

Now you will. SFUSD school cafeterias are launching a prepayment program called MealpayPlus that will increase convenience for families and speed up lunch lines. Student Nutrition Services is encouraging families to prepay for students’ school meals by the month, by the week or on their own schedule.

MealpayPlus® allows families to register at www.mealpayplus.com and prepay by credit card, debit card or electronic check online or by phone. Families may also pay by check or cash at school, or may choose to send checks by mail.
MealpayPlus® will also allow families, including those who qualify for
National School Lunch Program free or reduced-price meals, to view their students’ history of purchases in the cafeterias, so parents can see what their child is eating.

Other benefits of MealpayPlus® include eliminating the need for children to carry cash to school, reducing cash losses, and helping the district meet all requirements set by the National School Lunch Program. The technology is now up and running at all SFUSD middle and high schools, and is going online at several elementary schools a week. It will be completed in all San Francisco public schools by the end of the school year. For families with children in more than one school, you will be notified by the school when the program is online.
Schools will also send out forms for cash and check prepayments.

Important Message from San Francisco USD:

Currently, MealpayPlus® is available to all Middle and High Schools (except Aptos, Gateway, Downtown, & Wells). It is also available at the following primary or K-8: Bryant, Carmichael K-5, Lawton Alternative, Paul Revere, Rosa Parks, Tenderloin, West Portal, & Willie Brown.
We expect to have all schools online by Fall 2010.

BONUS OFFER!
As an introductory offer and to offset the 4.75% payment fee, SFUSD is offering the following bonus! If you prepay for lunch using MealpayPlus®, you will receive bonus dollars credited to your account(s) as follows:

Prepayment between:
$20-$39.99 = $1.00 Bonus
$40-$59.99 = $2.00 Bonus
$60-$79.99 = $3.00 Bonus
$80-$99.99 = $4.00 Bonus
$100-$119.00 = $5.00 Bonus
$120-$139.00 = $6.00 Bonus

The bonus amount will show up automatically in your account.

HELLO Parents, Students, Staff and Community Members,

ISA Athletic Department is looking at further supporting student academic achievement. A group of parents, student-athletes, students, coaches and staff met Jan 21 to come up with recommendations to support individual student achievement and team support. We began with our Cobra Athletic Mission Statement:

1. To teach life and sport skills

2. To Pursue Victory With Honor

3. To Create CHAMPIONS on and off the field

There were then three committees created to come up with guidelines as a matter of athletic policy to begin spring 2010.

1. All sports workshops to address our mission Examples: sportsmanship, leadership, what it means to Pursue Victory With Honor, connection of school and athletic mastery fundamentals, handling failure, communicating effectively with teachers, coaches and others, what it means to be on a team, how to dress for success (champion), athletes as role models and more

My 7th Period Advanced PE class expressed interest in training/mentoring middle school athletes on many of the above themes.

2. Recruiting student-athletes AND spirit

3. Study Hall (5 hours a week in season and 3 hours a week off season), tutoring and daily and weekly progress reports monitored by coaches with support from counselors

We meet again Thursday Feb 4 from 5-6:30 pm in Room 102 to discuss each committee work. Recommendations will then be made to the ISA Leadership Team for input, vote and finally a commitment of support.

You are all invited to our meeting this Thursday. Pizza and drinks are provided. Please contact MS/HS Athletic Director Ms. Castro if you’d like to attend. Thank you.

GO MIGHTY COBRAS!!!
